Professional Coach (ICF ACC)
“Trust, no judgment, and a goal clear enough to act on.”
Online
Session languages: English
I strongly believe that people are inherently gifted, and can rise to the top if they can identify their potential and perform at it. As a coach I try to build an environment of trust and safety, without judgment, and with the understanding that people simply have different values. I use coaching tools to help you define your goals with clarity and take the action steps that accomplish them.
The people I work with are leaders, executives and professionals, and the teams and organisations around them. The themes are self-confidence, leadership, work and life, conflict, working relationships and the beliefs that get in the way.
Before coaching I worked in oil and gas. That work took me into storms in the North Sea, land rigs across England, and a deep-water exploration team in the Falkland Islands, and later to Canada and the United States as a senior research specialist. In 2014 the oil and gas slowdown cost me that career. I went to an executive coach to find some direction. That decision is why I do this work.
I coach with technical precision, business experience and attention to emotional intelligence: self-awareness, clarity and how you work with other people.
We start from the goals and objectives you want.
With leaders I look at emotional intelligence in a practical way: how well you know your own reactions, how you decide when the situation is unclear, and how you work with other people. One-to-one coaching is where we heighten that self-awareness, refine how you lead, and get to a clearer strategy.
I work best with leaders, executives and professionals who want a goal made clear and then actually done. That includes people stepping into more responsibility, people in conflict at work, and people whose beliefs are getting in the way of the work they want to do. I also work with teams and with organisations, when the question is how a group leads, not only how one person does.
In the room I aim for trust without judgment, and for goals clear enough to act on. Emotional intelligence, for me, means self-awareness, clearer decisions, and better work with other people.
I hold the Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential from the International Coaching Federation. Before that I worked in oil and gas: the North Sea, land rigs in England, deep-water exploration in the Falkland Islands, and research roles in Canada and the United States. I am a co-inventor on a US patent for a gas extraction calibration system.
In 2014 a downturn ended that chapter. I became a coach after being coached myself. The practice I run now, Coaching.EQ, is based in Calgary and works with leaders, teams and organisations.
